How it works
Why it is not another chat app.
Nothing below is a feature. They are four choices made underneath the app, and every visible difference falls out of them.
The thread belongs to the person, not the app.
Email is not a category, it is a transport that won. A mail, an SMS, a missed call, a message from another zero and a public link are all the same event — information from someone — so one resolver turns every address they own into ONE correspondent, and every line they ever sent lands in one time-ordered thread. The rail becomes a badge on the bubble. Nothing is migrated to make this true: each rail keeps its own store and the thread is the union of them, which is why connecting a mail account does not convert anything and disconnecting it does not destroy anything.
The connection is between the two devices.
Every message and every call hop is a signed connection from one device to the other over a single mesh — there is no server holding your conversation so that it can hand it to you later. Every inbound seam is deny-by-default and refuses in a fixed order before it writes anything: not remote, anonymous, wrong namespace, unknown key, blocked. Somebody who is cryptographically proven but whom you have not yet accepted does not ring you at all; they wait in a bounded request list until you accept or block them.
The intelligence is yours, and it starts switched off.
Your twin can answer a conversation when you cannot — and that is a setting you turn on, not a default you discover. Until you do, nothing in your thread is sent to any model. When it is on, the reply is labelled as the twin in prose the other person cannot miss, and the model is one you chose and already pay for: there is no provider in the middle taking a cut of your conversation for the privilege.
A screen is a declaration, not a page.
Every screen — this one included — is declared once as a tree of semantic components and drawn by whoever is looking: real AppKit, Android, GTK and Win32 widgets in the apps, HTML in a browser, a focusable rail on a TV, and a readable structure for an agent. That is why your own agent can read and answer a conversation through the exact door you tap, and why there is no second, worse mobile version of anything.
Numbers, not adjectives.
These are the messenger's own acceptance figures, and they are the ceiling of what a machine can grade: a checker can prove a screen ANSWERS, never that what it says is true.
